Choosing colors for your brand is one of the most critical factor for your brand’s success. Colors evoke certain emotions and feelings and attribute to build personality for your brand. Colors can mean different things depending on the culture, situation and industry so it is vital to choose a color that represents your identity effectively.
According to a research, people make a subconscious judgment about a person, environment, or product within 90 seconds of initial viewing and between 62% and 90% of that assessment is based on color alone. Each color is associated with different meanings. All the colors can be divided into two primary categories: warm and cool. Warm symbolizes energy and outgoing behavior (eg: Red, Yellow etc).Cool symbolizes calmness and reserve behavior (eg: Blue, light pink etc). Besides, each color has its own perception and interpretation.
Red: Red color evokes a passionate response, makes you aggressive, energetic, provocative and grabs your attention. This happens because red activates your pituitary gland, increase your heart rate causing your breathing heavy.
Blue: Blue color strongly denotes sky and sea. It is serene and globally liked. Therefore, blue is perceived as trustworthy, secure, and responsible. Blue is popularly used with technology related institutions, as it is the message of stability inspiring trust.
Green: Green is the color of nature and therefore associated with health, freshness and serenity. Different shades of green carry different meanings. Lighter shades denote calmness and deeper shades denotes wealth or prestige.
Yellow: Certain shades like Yellow seem to motivate and stimulate thoughts and energy. Yellow is associated with color of sun and thus communicates positivity, light, and warmth. Our eyes see bright yellow before any other color and therefore can be used on marketable products.
Pink: Pink color is associated with females but its meaning varies by the intensity. Hot pink convey energy, youthfulness, excitement and fun. It is mostly used on trendy products for women or girls. Dusty pink evokes sentiments and lighter pink is used to show romance.
Orange: Orange is the combination of red and yellow evokes cheerfulness, fun and vitality. Orange is seen as childlike and. According to a research, its lighter shades are most used and are appealing. Example; peach tone is used with health care, restaurants and beauty salons.
Brown: Brown is the color of earth and conveys simplicity, durability and stability. Some shades of brown convey an upscale look while some generates negative response of being dirty by customers.
Black: Black is considered serious, bold, powerful and classic. It is used to create drama and also conveys sophistication. Black is mostly used for expensive products and makes a product look heavy.
White: human eye considers white as a brilliant color and thus immediately catches it. White denotes peace, purity, simplicity and cleanliness. It is also used with health-related products.
