The New Airtel logo 2010

The new Airtel logo, first time I saw and I was like what was wrong with the old one; and why so much of a spent on a non-appealing logo?!

At an airport Vodafone and Airtel kiosks barely looked different from a distance being adjacent to each other; a white stroke (or a circle) on complete red background. The two were so diluting into each other, or one can say on a closer look, the first mover Vodafone logo stood better in visual appeal. Someone around muttered that the logo design agency for both the companies are the same (which is usually not the case in competition)!! I googled and saw there is a poll about the logo; where more than 50% people did not like it and about 7-8% said it did not matter to them. Well, but the poll itself does mean that people are concerned.

Yeah Yeah its an “a” for Airtel and all but it could have been more chic and techy-3G. The concept of evolving and seamless (as perceived) etc. is fine when seen on TV, but the moment it’s a 2 dimensional “a”, its like unfinished, too soft a piece with rounded curves. The lowercase below the logo is fine but the font?!
Apparently it’s a global look designed by a London based agency. Well Indians do have great acceptance and appeal for global brands then why this one is being taken with a little difference.

The new signature tune and the TV commercial of Airtel are quite appealing. May be the logo needs more work! Or may be we all will get accustomed to it.

A breather was to see the new Airtel logo in reverse i.e. the “a” in red and also airtel written in red while the background is white.
