When to change your LOGO

Experts recommend that your chosen logo should stay at least for two decades. If, one realizes the need up gradation or change, one can consider these points before going for a logo change.

Do you need a complete change or an up-gradation?

Your logo is used to identify your business, products and services. You should switch to an up-gradation or change without destroying your existing brand image. A complete makeover of your logo is needed if you are switching into new category or market. If you are in the same business, you can upgrade your logo keeping the previous design as the base.

Your logo is technically complex?

It is recommended that logo should contain not more than three colors to be perfectly compatible for online and offline media. If your logo is getting difficult to understand, you can switch to less complex design or choose two color combinations for your logo. Pepsi original logo was a red script on white and difficult to understand. They switched to less complex logo with two color combination.

Does you logo looks outdated?

With the new trends in the technology and design, logos can differ in terms of color, fonts and shapes. But, does your logo make your company look behind the times. Developing a consistent logo is the important factor to be kept in mind. Still if your logo is too old to be looked at, you can change to more advance version which looks modern and trendy. Apple switched to a simple one graphic logo from an outdated & complex design which showed Sir Isaac Newton beneath an apple tree.
Do you feel the need of press?
You are doing fine with your logo and its design. But if at a point of your business you need press releases or offline media coverage your logo should be compatible for offline media as well. If you think it’s not scaling well down, you can change your logo to a more easy to print design.
Does your logo look flat on online media?
Mostly logos should be made keeping all the media in mind; a two-dimensional logos with two-three colors is ideal to be executed well across online and offline media. However, with the evolutionary online space you can adapt your logos making it 3D with effects.

If you believe in breaking the rules, you could be one like Google. Everyday new Google logo is a strategy which makes people more interested on the Search page. But then Google is one big giant which will be recognized distinctively. And in its all official communication Google maintains its one unique identity.
